February 6 is the national day for all Sami in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola-peninsula in Russia. It commemorates the first national meeting for the Sami in Norway in Trondheim in 1917, the first time a wide coalition of Sami in Norway gathered to discuss common Sami issues. This meeting was important in creating a common Sami movement. Dette var f\u00f8rste gang samer samla seg til et stort m\u00f8te for \u00e5 snakke om felles samiske <strong>problemstillinger<\/strong>. M\u00f8tet den 6. februar i Trondheim var derfor viktig i \u00e5 <strong>skape<\/strong> en felles samisk <strong>bevegelse<\/strong>. 6. februar blei f\u00f8rst offisiell samisk nasjonaldag i 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I dag blir samenes nasjonaldag feira f\u00f8rst og fremst i S\u00e1pmi. S\u00e1pmi er navnet p\u00e5 det tradisjonelle samiske omr\u00e5det, f\u00f8rst og fremst i Nord-Norge i Norge. Den blir gjerne markert med at det samiske flagget blir heist opp og med servering av tradisjonell samisk mat som <em>bidos<\/em>. Dette er for \u00e5 <strong>hilse<\/strong> og gratulere det samiske folk med nasjonaldagen. Likevel blir dagen lite feira i resten av Norge utenom det. Faktisk er ikke 6. februar en <strong>fridag<\/strong> i Norge. Det betyr at alle i Norge m\u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 skole og p\u00e5 jobb den 6. februar. 17. mai, Norges nasjonaldag, er derimot fridag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samene har ogs\u00e5 mange symboler som de bruker den 6. februar. For eksempel finnes det et samisk flagg og mange tar p\u00e5 seg tradisjonelle samiske kl\u00e6r, <strong>samekofta<\/strong>. Ogs\u00e5 finnes det en egen samisk nasjonalsang. Den heter <em>S\u00e1mi soga l\u00e1vlla<\/em>, det samiske folkets sang. In Manndalen in Northern Troms, far north in Norway, where I live, there was a Sami exhibition, Sami theatre, and Sami food at the Centre for northern peoples, a Sami cultural centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the rest of Norway, February 6 is marked by raising the Norwegian flag in all public spaces. This is to congratulate the Sami people on their national day. However, the day is hardly celebrated in the rest of Norway, and February 6 is not a holiday.
